Gilberto Villarreal, a beloved husband, father, brother, and grandfather, passed away peacefully in his hometown of Corpus Christi, Texas, on November 4, 2023. Born on October 28, 1961, in Corpus Christi, Gilberto was a man known for his infectious joy, his love for life, and his unwavering generosity.
Predeceased by his beloved parents, Maria and Anatacio Villarreal, Gilberto was a devoted family man. Gilberto is survived by his devoted wife, Alma Villarreal; his loving sister, Lupe Villarreal; and his brother, Arturo Villarreal. He was a proud father to his daughters, Priscilla Elizondo, America Mungia, Adrinna Mungia, and Nova Castro; and his sons, Daniel Mungia and Robert Mungia. Gilberto was also a cherished grandfather to twenty grandchildren and a beloved uncle to numerous nieces and nephews. His family was his pride and joy, and he loved them with all his heart.
Gilberto was a man of many passions. He loved to cook, and his homemade tortillas were a favorite among family and friends. His kitchen was always open, and he was known for his hospitality, always offering a place to eat and sleep to anyone in need. His love for life was infectious, and he was often the life of the party, his laughter and jokes filling any room he was in.
In addition to his love for cooking, Gilberto was also a talented artist. He enjoyed drawing and taking pictures, capturing the beauty of the world around him. His artwork was a reflection of his perspective on life, full of color, joy, and love.
Gilberto was best described as funny and loving. His sense of humor was a source of joy for all who knew him, and his loving nature made him a friend to many. He had a unique ability to make people feel welcomed and loved, and his presence will be deeply missed.

Gilberto’s family will receive condolences on Monday, November 13, 2023, from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Treviño Funeral Home, 3006 Niagara at Port Ave; with Holy Rosary to be recited at 7:00 PM. Liturgy of the Word will follow at 7:30 PM and services will conclude that evening.
