Hermelinda G Flores joined her Heavenly Father on Sunday, September 17, 2023, in Pleasanton, TX.
Hermelinda “Linda” was born in Los Herreras, N.L. Mexico on January 30, 1927, and had been a lifelong resident of Alice, TX.
She was proceeded in death by her loving husband, Eloy P. Flores; parents, Santos and Juanita Garcia; in-laws, Silverio and Reyes Flores; brother, Emedardo “Lalo” (Elena) Garcia; sisters, Maria Victoria (Manuel) Montelongo and Ofelia (Rolando) Cavazos; brothers/sisters-in-law, Jose (Herlinda) Flores, Reynaldo (Alicia) Flores, and Raul ( Julia) Flores; nephews, Rey Jr. (Francis) Flores, Tim F. Gonzalez, and Juan Manuel Montelongo; and niece, Thelma Laurel.
She leaves behind to cherish her memories her two sons, Eloy (Hilda) Flores Jr. of Eagle Pass, TX and Homero (Sylvanna) Flores of Pleasanton, TX; five grandchildren, Eloy III (Julie), Juan Antonio (Amy), Beverley Danette, Mario Aaron (Italie), and Mariel Dawnette; seven great-grandchildren, Emma Katherine and Ethan James Flores-Martinez, Isabela Grace, Eli James, Evan John, and John Anthony Flores; brother, Pedro (Tina) Garcia of Alice; and sisters, Graciela Morales of Missouri City and America Garcia of Nuevo Laredo. Also surviving her are numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
Hermelinda came to Alice TX in 1953 with her uncle A.S Salinas and cousin H.G. “Beto” Salinas. She married Eloy in 1955 and was sworn-in as an American citizen in Corpus Christi, TX in 1962. She was employed by Retama Manor Nursing Home from 1971 to 1976, at which time she went to work for AISD at Saenz Elementary School cafeteria until her retirement in 1990.
She was active with Catholic Daughters of America, Mutualistas at St. Joseph Catholic Church, and a life member of VFW Post 8621 Lady’s Auxiliary.
Her happiest memories were working on her yard and her plants and helping and serving others through her love of cooking and baking. She enjoyed when family was together and the holidays- especially making pan de polvo and her tamales. And she loved to watch her Dallas Cowboys play.
Fue una hermosa esposa, madre, abuela, bisabuela, tia y amiga. Todos los que la conocieron y amaron la extrañaran profundamente. (She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend. Everyone that knew her and loved her will miss her.)
Hermelinda’s family will receive condolences on Friday, September 22, 2023, at Treviño Funeral Home Alice, 120 E Front St., from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM; with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 12:00 PM. A funeral cortege will depart the funeral home at 1:00 PM for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 1:30 PM at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at New Collins Cemetery.
