Jose Angel Martinez Jr., a respected member of the San Diego, Texas community, passed away peacefully on August 3, 2023. Born on April 6, 1949, in the same town, he lived a life filled with love, faith, and service.
Jose was a loving husband for 25 years to his late wife, Noemi Martinez, who preceded him in death; along with his parents, Jose Angel Sr and Maria Martinez; his adoptive parents, Juan and Juanita Monsevais. He is also preceded in death by his brother, Juan Antonio Martinez; adopted siblings, Jose Monsevais, Abel (Lydia) Monsevais, Yolanda Buentello, and Zulema Rodriguez; and brother-in-law, Manuel Rodriguez.
He was a devoted father to his son, Eli Rafael (Amber) Martinez, and a loving grandfather to Eulalia Valdez. He was a caring brother to his sister, Maria C. Martinez (Arturo Vela); brother, Ricardo T. Martinez (Sylvia Trevino); his adopted siblings, Frank (Rosie) Monsevais, Teresa (Soni) Moreno, Janie Rodriguez, Olga Monsevais, Raul (Audelia) Monsevais, Danny (Nancy) Monsevais, Rick (Olga) Monsevais, and Diana (Ruben) Gonzalez; brother-in-law Juan Buentello, Juan Rodriguez and sister-in-law Suzy Monsevais. He also leaves behind numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Jose graduated from William Adams High School in1968 in Alice, Texas. He went on to serve his country with honor and courage in the United States Army. Following his military service, he worked at the Alice Country Club Pro Shop and later as a driver for Weatherford. His colleagues will remember him as a devoted, respectful, and hardworking man.
Jose's love for sports was well-known in his community. As a sportsman, he played and taught golf, and he never missed a game of his favorite teams, the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers. His passion for sports was only matched by his love for his family who was the center of his universe, and he cherished every moment spent with them.
A man of strong Pentecostal faith, Jose was very involved in church activities. He lived his faith daily and was known for his loving, spirited, and courageous nature. His unwavering faith was an inspiration to all who knew him.
Jose Angel Martinez Jr.'s life was a beacon of love and service, and his legacy will continue to inspire his loved ones and community for generations to come. His life was a testament to the power of faith, and love, he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Jose’s family will receive condolences on Wednesday, August 9, 2023, from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM, at Trevino Funeral Home, 120 E. Front St., with Prayer Service at 7:00 PM. A Prayer Service will begin at 9:00 AM on Thursday, August 10, 2023, at Trevino Funeral Home Alice. Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery at 11:00 AM in Corpus Christi, Texas.
