Obituary

Kim Rose Herrera, 60 of Corpus Christi, Texas, entered God’s Kingdom on August 27, 2023. She was born February 13, 1963, and raised by loving parents Elaine and Ed Horton. Kimberly was a loving and devoted Wife, Mother, Daughter, Nana, and Sister.

She is survived by her husband, Richard of 38 years of marriage; her mother Elaine; daughter, Amber (William) Moran; and grandsons, Conall and Declan. She is also survived by her sisters, Norma (Carl), Trisha (John), Alicia (Lino), Anna, Rachel, Irma (Rafiq), Janie, and Josie; brothers, Eddie (Angela), Pete (Belinda), Juan Manuel (Blanca), (Gavina) and (Silvia).  She was also blessed with many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends.

Kim is proceeded in death by her dad, Ed Horton, brother, Kevin Gillespie as well as Joe Raymond, Betty (Lonnie), Frank and Gilbert.

Kim was born in California and grew up in Des Moines, Iowa. Her family moved to Corpus Christi where she attended Richard King High School. Kim later graduated from Grand Junction High School in Colorado. She returned to Corpus with her daughter and attended Beauty School. Kim also went to vocational School for secretarial and administrative work. Over the years she worked at the Coastal Bend AIDs Foundation, and Spohn Hospital. She found her greatest joy and fulfillment as a caregiver. For many years she worked as a caregiver for both the elderly and young. As much as her residents and students loved her, she loved them more.

Kim was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year. She fought until her last breath. Despite her many treatments, she remained hopeful and with a smile on her face. Kim was a very strong person on her own, but especially with the constant love and support of her husband, Richard, sister Alicia, brother Lino, and her daughter Amber.

Please honor and remember Kim in your heart. Flower arrangements and/or a donation to the Gulf Coast Humane Society, a organization she supported and was fond of due to her soft spot for animals, would be greatly appreciated in honoring her memory. Kim touched many lives and will be missed by all. Purple was Kim’s favorite color, and we would like everyone in attendance or in spirit if unable to attend to wear the color purple to pay tribute to our beloved.

Kim's family will receive condolences on Monday, September 11, 2023, at Trevino Funeral Home, 3006 Niagara St., Corpus Christi, Texas, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM with a Chapel Service to begin at 12:00 PM.
