Maria Guadalupe “Lupita” Vasquez Garza passed away surrounded by her loving family on Monday, May 3, 2023, at the age of 76. Maria was born in Alice, Texas on December 23, 1946, to her parents, Guadalupe T. and Maria Anita Vasquez. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and dear friend who will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her.
Lupita was a quiet, humble, kind, and sincere women of faith who had a deep devotion to Our Lady of Guadalupe. Lupita loved to dance and enjoyed listening to the music of Fito Olivares and loved watching her Spanish novelas. She worked at Dena’s Restaurant for many years and made the best homemade tortillas ever. She looked forward to going to the First Class Activity Center, where she was a member, to visit with friends and play Chalupa. She taught her daughter to be a good homemaker and her son to be a hardworking man, and taught them both the values of being honest and respectful and the importance of family unity. Lupita’s favorite holiday was Thanksgiving as it was a day of laughter, joking, relaxing, and especially sharing a meal with her family; she enjoyed eating the cornbread dressing more than anything else. Lupita was attentive to the needs of those who needed help and there was nothing she wouldn’t do for her family.
Lupita is preceded in death by her husband, Enrique R. Garza; her parents, Guadalupe T. and Maria Anita Vasquez; maternal grandparents, Horacio and Cipriana Trevino; paternal grandparents, Antonio and Reyes Vasquez; and brothers, Ruben Vasquez and Roel Vasquez;
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Leticia Garza; son, Enrique (Michelle) Garza Jr; sister, Belia V. Garza; grandchildren, Christopher L. Seiffert, Brandon Posey, Cherish (Chris) Posey, Dominic (Samantha) Aldama, Enrique (Victoria) Garza III, Joshua M. (Vanessa) Garza, and Brittney V.
