Michael Woods Obituary

Michael DeWayne Woods, 59, of Corpus Christi, Texas was reunited with his loved ones in Heaven on Friday, May 27, 2022.

Michael is predeceased by his parents, Jimmie Earl Woods, Sr. and Dorothy Aline Barnes. He is survived by his wife, Vallee Jean Woods of Corpus Christi, Texas; his sons, Jeremy Woods of La Porte, Texas, Myka Woods of Ingleside, Texas, and Gene Phillips, of Corpus Christi, Texas; his daughters, Alea Grantham of Aransas Pass, Texas and Traci Martinez (Oso) of Portland, Texas; his grandchildren, Lucy Grantham and Libbie Woods; his brother, Jimmie (Jay) Earl Woods, Jr. (Carolyn) of Saint Hedwig, Texas; and his sisters, Jennifer Krnavek (Bryan) of Corpus Christi, Texas and Michelle Smith (Jim) of Cedar Creek, TX. There are also numerous nieces, nephews, and special friends.

Michael was born July 3, 1962, in Amarillo, Texas. He graduated from Ingleside High School in 1980. He joined the United States Navy on April 10, 1984, and served until he was honorably discharged in 1985. After serving in the Navy, Michael worked at various jobs including Aransas Pass ISD, Texas Department of Transportation, where he achieved his certification to Captain ferry boats. He completed his basic peace officer certificate in 2003 and at one point, worked for the San Patricio County Sheriff's Department. Michael achieved his Corrections Officer license in 2015. He went on to become a Corrections Officer with Nueces County Sheriff’s Office earning multiple achievement awards and the respect of those he worked with.

Michael was initiated into the Masons in 1998, attaining the status of Master Mason and was a member of the Ingleside and Sunset Lodge. Michael became a clown in 2003 for the Al Amin Shriners where he was always in his element providing joy to children, performing at the Shrine Circus and various parades in Corpus Christi.

While working at TxDOT he met the woman who would become his wife, Vallee. They married on February 1, 2014. Michael’s love for Vallee was ever present. He always would find ways to show her every day that she was the love of his life.

Michael loved his children and grandchildren with all that he had. He was full of pride when each one was born into his life. He was an even prouder “PopPop” when Lucy and Libbie were gifted by his son and daughter. He loved every single child in his life, from his own children and grandchildren, to each niece and nephew, and hoped they knew it.

Michael lived his life to the fullest. He never knew a stranger and by the end of a conversation you either felt like a friend or family to him. When Michael loved he loved hard. He never wanted anyone that he cared about to go a day without knowing how he felt about them. He also wanted everyone around him to be happy. So, we are sad today that he is gone, the next you see something that reminds you of him or a memory that comes to you, remember he is always with you, smiling down.
