Miguel Martinez Obituary

Miguel Alonso “Al” Martinez, born to Demetrio and Guadalupe Martinez on December 2, 1929 in Palito Blanco, TX, passed away on December 11, 2018 at the age of 89. Al proudly served in the United States Air Force. He was a sports fanatic who enjoyed his Dallas Cowboys, Houston Astros, and Texas Longhorns. Growing up he was an awesome baseball player. He taught at William Adams High School as well as Ben Bolt-Palito Blanco High School and was also the high school Senior Sponsor. Al was an avid hunter who would wake up in the early morning hours to go hunting, often bringing home a huge deer; sometimes two. He served as a member of the Alice City Council, he was Jim Wells County Commissioner of Precinct 3, served as the President of the Alice High School Band Booster Club, Alice Boys and Girls Club, and the Alice Coyote High School Booster Club. Al was the CEO of Al Martinez Insurance Agency in Alice for 25 years. He later established Bayside Home Health Care, Inc. in Corpus Christi and in Alice which continues to prosper for over 25 years. He enjoyed eating his wife’s home cooking and would often tell friends, “Nobody cooks better than ‘my viejita’ (Mary).” He was a tremendous husband who adored his wife and was the best father and grandfather in the whole world. Al was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.

Al is proceeded in death by his parents; sisters, Zulema Almaraz and Margarita Trevino; and brothers, Armando Martinez and Demetrio Martinez Jr.

He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Mary Martinez; daughter, Melissa Ann Solis; sons, Curtis A. Martinez (Linda) and Patrick M. Martinez (Sylvia); sisters, Janie Gonzalez, Eva Barrera (Floyd), and Guadalupe Gonzalez; brothers, Adan Martinez (Norma) and Alberto Martinez (Elena); grandchildren, Matthew A. Martinez, Michelle Fitch, Andrew A. Martinez, Michael D. Solis, Audrey A. Martinez, Mattie C. Martinez, Mathew A. Solis, and Aiden Martinez; great-grandchildren; Logan Fitch, Amaryann Fitch, and Brendan Fitch; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Serving as Pallbearers, Matthew A. Martinez, Andrew A. Martinez, Michael D. Solis, Matthew A. Solis, Aiden Martinez, Lauro Almaraz, Mario Martinez, and J.M. Gonzalez, III.

The family will receive condolences on Sunday, December 16, 2018, from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Treviño Funeral Home, 120 E. Front St. Alice, TX; with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 6:00 PM. A funeral cortege will depart the funeral home Monday, December 17, 2018, at 9:30 AM to St Joseph Catholic Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM. Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery in Corpus Christi, TX.
