Ramon Zapata passed away on Saturday, May 22, 2021, at the age of 65. He proudly served his country during the Vietnam Era in the United States Navy. Ramon worked as a skilled artist for many years. He was a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend and will be dearly missed by all whom knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernesto and Benita Zapata; and brother-in-law, Santos Ruben Rodriguez.
Among those left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Nicole Cantu; siblings, Felipita “Phyllis” Rodriguez, Alicia (Darrell) Reed, and Ernest (Patricia) Zapata; grandson, Dante Cantu; nephews, Eddie (Martha) Rodriguez, Brian (Laura) Reed, and Zakry Zapata; nieces, Beeta (John) Gualdoni and Brillianna (Trevor) Ives; and numerous uncles, aunts, cousins, and extended family.
The family will receive condolences on Friday, May 28, 2021, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Trevino Funeral Home, 3006 Niagara St. @ Port; with a Chapel Service to begin at 11:00 AM. A Funeral cortege will depart the funeral chapel at 12:30 PM to Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery for Rite of Committal with Military Honors at 1:00 PM.
Face masks must be worn, and social distancing must be practiced while attending funeral services due to the current pandemic.
