Raquel Flores Paredez went to be with our Lord on Thursday, September 14, 2023, after a long and hard battle with Multiple Myeloma. Born on January 3, 1961, Rachel, as we all knew her, was the daughter of Felipe Flores and Ynumerables Flores Bueno. Rachel was one of 15 children, and was loved by all of her siblings. She was an extremely hard worker and loved helping all those around her. She also loved to go out dancing so there was naturally a connection when she met Ezequiel (Kelo) Paredez, and he took her out dancing in the summer of 1987. She fell in love with him when he told her that he loved children, and even more so when he said he always wanted twin boys. You see, Rachel had twin boys and a beautiful little girl who desperately wanted a daddy. Rachel and Kelo became one and together they raised a beautiful family. As members of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, they passed their beautiful faith in God on to their children Ronicalashay, Leroy, and Roy.
Rachel always had a servant's heart, and was a beloved figure in her community. She was known for her kindness, her generosity, and her unyielding dedication to helping others. She was a proud graduate of Del Mar College and South Texas Rural EMS Training Academy. Rachel spent most of her professional life in service to others, first as a Clinical Nursing Assistant and then as an Emergency Medical Technician. Her courage and commitment to her community led her to become a firefighter, where she served with distinction and bravery. She later worked for Banquete ISD and loved working with the local youth. She then transitioned to a role as the Bishop Community Center Site Manager. In this position, she continued to touch lives, providing support, guidance, and friendship to countless individuals. Her work was more than a job; it was a calling, and she poured her heart and soul into every interaction, every project, and every person she encountered.
Though she truly loved her community, her heart belonged to her family, and her favorite titles were Wife, Mom, Grandma, and Great-Grandma. She was their pillar of strength, teacher of faith and beacon of love. Rachel leaves behind a beautiful legacy of children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her endless love, support and laughter will be greatly missed.
Beyond her professional and family life, Rachel was a woman of many interests and talents. She was an avid player of Loteria, and her love for dancing was infectious. Rachel was also a master of card games and playing Paco with her sisters was a favorite pastime. She had a knack for baking, often delighting family and friends, especially at Christmas, with these delicious creations.
Rachel is preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Santos Zavala, Eliazar Flores, Vicente Flores, Alfredo Flores, her sisters Esmeralda Flores, Laura Flores, Rosario Flores, and her grandson Christian Bueno. Rachel is survived by her loving husband, Ezequiel (Kelo) Paredez of Banquete, Texas, her daughter, Ronicalashay (Ricardo) Franco of Corpus Christi, Texas, her sons, Leroy (Clarice) Bueno of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Roy (Valerie) Bueno of Rockport, Texas. Grandsons are Damien Bueno and Caleb Bueno. Granddaughters are Brandi (Jesus) Pena, Iris Guajardo, Ju-lin Guajardo, Haileylashay Bueno, Emily Bueno, Kiera Bueno, Mikayla Bueno, Crystal Bueno, and Araceli Bueno. Great Grandchildren are Jesus Pena III and Lillian Pena. Survivors also include her sisters, brothers, cousins, friends, and many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Leroy Bueno, Roy Bueno, Ricardo Franco, Damien Bueno, Caleb Bueno, Jesus Pena II, Thomas Martinez, and Noe Villarreal. Honorary Pallbearer will be Jesus Pena III.
