Raymond J. Stevens

Raymond Jacob Stevens passed away on Sunday, February 12, 2017, during his 81st trip around the sun. Born and raised a Corpus Christi, Texan, he served his country as an Army Paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne. He was a proud serviceman and exuded even more pride as a retired serviceman. His military career took him to Europe, Southeast Asia, Middle East and across the United States of America. When he retired, he settled in San Jose, California where he raised his children, coached sports, achieved an AA degree at the local community college, and participated in the church choir. Always encouraging his Texas family to visit California, his most memorable experience was the time his nephew, Ben Stevens of Corpus Christi, came to visit. His heart was happy. His love of his hometown brought him back to Texas where he became involved with the 82nd Airborne Association, Retired Veteran’s Associations and Disabled Veteran’s Associations. Ray was always ready to talk story and tell a few tall tales, he had a special way of cheering others as well as lifting their spirits. His life motto, “If you’re gonna work, work hard. If you’re gonna play, play hard”...good words to live by. Raymond is survived by his daughter RoseAnne Stevens, grandchildren Madeleine Mauro, Anthony Mauro and Spencer Mauro, and his son Ray Stevens.
