Rogelio Rivera Obituary

Rogelio Gomez Rivera, The Panadero and family comedian, passed away suddenly at the age of 63 on March 9, 2020 in Corpus Christi, Texas. He was born and raised in Corpus Christi on March 15, 1957 to Santiago Rivera Sr. and Emma G. Rivera. The lifelong panadero, Rogelio “Halo” learned the art of baking goods for the community at his family’s restaurant - The City Bakery.  Until his passing, Rogelio made his famous biscuits and pan dulce with a smile and a laugh. He was renowned amongst his family and friends for his comedic observations and hilarious jokes.  Rogelio enjoyed spending time with his family and cruising the beach every spring break. Rogelio will be missed by so many people; he was a people person and jokester.  

He was preceded in death by his parents, Santiago M. and Emma Rivera; brothers, Santiago M. Rivera, Jr. and Juan G, Rivera, Sr.; nephew, Nieves D. Sauceda, Jr.; and niece, Brenda Lee Peña.

Rogelio is survived by his siblings, Irma R. Peña, Rey Rivera (Lupe), Rosita Rivera de la Paz (Juanito Sandoval), and Pablo G. Rivera (Juana); aunt, Hermenia G. Perez from Burgon, Michigan; several children and grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

The family will receive condolences on Friday, March 13, 2020, at Treviño Funeral Home, 3006 Niagara St. @ Port, from 5 PM to 9 PM; with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 7 PM.  A funeral cortege will depart the funeral home at 9:30 AM on Saturday, March 14, 2020, to St. Joseph Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial to be held at 10 AM.  Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park.
