Our beloved Roman Chapa Jr., better known as “Chimpo”, died peacefully Monday, July 5, 2021. He was born to Roman Chapa and Josephina Ruiz Chapa in Alice, Texas
Roman was a very loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend who would go beyond the call of duty to help anyone in need. He was hard working, respectful, generous, peaceful, and enjoyed listening and whistling to conjunto music. He was a number one fan of the Alice Coyotes football and baseball teams and wouldn’t miss a game. He also played baseball and was an awesome short-stop player with the then well known Alice Mohawks baseball team. Roman was a jack of all trades; there was nothing he couldn’t fix or build. He was a man of faith who was so proud of having built the altar at St. Joseph Catholic Church when the church was first built.
Roman was preceded in death by his parents, Roman Chapa Sr. and Josephina Ruiz Chapa; a son, Reymundo Chapa Sr.; infant daughter, Lily Chapa; brothers, Ruben Chapa and Santos Chapa; and sisters, Emma Moreida and Esperanza Lopez.
He is survived by the love of his life and wife of 69 years, Lily Chapa; daughters, Anna (Roman) Rodriguez and Josie Gagnon; sons, Roel (Sarah) Chapa and Michael (Christy) Chapa; 20 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; siblings; Jose (Esmeralda) Chapa, Santiago (Estella) Chapa, and Eva Garcia; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The family will receive condolences from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Tuesday, July 6, 2021, at Trevino Funeral Home, 120 E. Front St.; with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 PM. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 7, 2021, at 2:00 PM at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Old Collins Cemetery.
